Easiest route=Kharimkotan ( _ru. Харимкотан) is a volcanic
island lying convert|13|km|mi km fromOnekotan in theKuril Islands group. It measures convert|8|km|mi by convert|12|km|mi with an area of convert|68|km2|sqmi.The island was formed by the volcano which shares the same name. The volcano reaches a height of 1,157
metre s. The peak is marked by twohorseshoe shaped craters created by the collapse of the volcanoes upper slopes. Other evidence of the collapse can be seen on thepeninsula s to the east and northwest which were formed by the debris. The other volcano on the island, Severgin, collapsed in 1933 resulted in a debris-avalanche which subsequently caused atsunami . The path on which the debris took is visible onsatellite imagery.Administratively this island belongs to the
Sakhalin Oblast of theRussian Federation .References
