Coverage Council areas Aberdeenshire, City of Aberdeen, Moray Size 3,360 square miles (8,700 km2) Population 525,936 Operations Formed 2004 Headquarters Aberdeen Staff 17,000[1] Hospitals List of hospitals in Scotland Website NHS Grampian website NHS Scotland NHS Grampian (Gaelic: Bòrd SSN nam Monadh) is one of the fourteen regions of NHS Scotland.[2] It was formed on 1 April 2004 by the amalgamation of Grampian University Hospitals NHS Trust and Grampian Primary Care NHS Trust.[3] The health board's headquarters are located at Summerfield House in the Mastrick area of Aberdeen. [4]
NHS Grampian consists of acute services, corporate services and three Community Health Partnerships and works closely with the local authorities in Aberdeen City, Aberdeenshire and Moray to cover a population of over 500,000. NHS Grampian is also very closely linked with both the University of Aberdeen and The Robert Gordon University, especially in the fields of research, workforce planning and training.[5]
Hospitals
Main article: List of hospitals in ScotlandThere are 9 main hospitals in the NHS Grampian region, the largest being Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, located on the Foresterhill Health Campus. Royal Aberdeen Children's Hospital and Aberdeen Maternity Hospital are also located at Foresterhill. Also located within Aberdeen are Woodend Hospital, a general hospital which houses the Department of Medicine for the Elderly among other services; Royal Cornhill Hospital, a psychiatric hospital; Woolmanhill Hospital, the original Aberdeen Royal Infirmary which now houses out-patients clinics and departments; and City Hospital, the location of the specialist Links Unit and several out-patient clinics.[6]
Dr Gray's Hospital is located in Elgin, Moray and is the main district hospital for that area. Also located in Elgin is The Oaks, a palliative care day hospital.[7]
Care is provided throughout Grampian in a 17 community hospitals[8], 89 GP Practices[9] and various other specialist care units.
