Linguiça

Linguiça

Linguiça (IPA|/lĩˈgwi.sɐ/; ling-gwee-sah) is a form of Portuguese cured pork sausage seasoned with onions, garlic, and paprika.

Outside of Portugal and Brazil, linguiça is also popular in New England, California and Hawaii, where it is often simply called "Portuguese sausage". It is typically sliced before being braised or grilled. In Hawaii, McDonald's restaurants serve breakfasts featuring Portuguese sausage, a regional variant of its usual menu.cite web | publisher = Pacific Business News | date = 2002-06-11 | url = http://www.bizjournals.com/pacific/stories/2002/06/10/daily22.html | title = McDonald's test-markets Spam | accessdate = 2008-04-22]

Linguiça, like many other sausages, is generally served as part of a heavy meal, typically accompanied by rice, beans, and other pork products. Feijoada, for example, is a traditional Brazilian dish that incorporates linguiça with beans, ham hocks, and other foods.cite web | publisher = Copacabana.info | date = 2008 | url = http://www.copacabana.info/feijoada.html | title = Brazilian Feijoada Recipe and History | accessdate = 2008-04-22]
