Gradihna of Duklja

Gradihna of Duklja

Gradihna Branislavljević (also known as Gradinja) was the King of Duklja, from 1131 to 1146. He was the son of Dioclean Prince Branislav and brother of Grubeša, the former King of Dioclea. Following the second Dioclean-Byzantine War in which King George was defeated and imprisoned in the stronghold of Oblon, the Byzantines appointed Gradihna as King of Dioclea. According to the Chronicle of the Priest of Duklja, Gradihna was gentle, tame, compassionate and a protector of the widows and the poor. Gradihna was a Byzantine exponent, however, the power and territorial extent of Dioclea was, in the time of his reign, greatly decreased. Gradihna was buried in the Church of Saints Sergius and Bacchus in Bojana. Radoslav, Gradinja's son, inherited the throne in 1146.
