Singapore Press Holdings Limited (SPH) (Chinese: 新加坡报业控股) is a media organisation in Singapore with businesses in print, Internet and new media, television and radio, outdoor media, and property.

SPH has a team of 1,000 journalists, including correspondents operating in 20 cities around the world. Its stable of broadsheets and tabloids aim to cater to the Singapore's multi-ethnic population, while its periodicals appeal to the lifestyle needs of the people in Singapore as well as the region.

Like all newspaper companies in Singapore, SPH is regulated by the Newspaper and Printing Presses Act of 1974, and issues both management and ordinary shares. Ties between the directors of SPH and the Singaporean government are close. Director of the Security and Intelligence Division and later President of Singapore S R Nathan served as SPH's executive chairman from 1982 to 1988, and the first president (1995-2002) of SPH was Tjong Yik Min, former chief of the Internal Security Department.

Internet and New Media

SPH's presence on the Internet includes the online editions of its key newspapers, which has over 100 million page views with 7 million visitors every month. SPH also operates mobile advertising and information service, ZapCode; recruitment and job search service, ST701; and the STOMP (Straits Times Online Mobile Print) a Web/phone portal.

Rednano

As part of SPH's apparent push towards the Internet, its local search subsidary, SPH Search Pte Ltd [http://www.sphsearch.sg/pressnews/The_Straits_Times_Rednano_lets_you_zero_in_on_local_content_19thmar2008.jpglaunched rednano.sg] , a localisied search and directory engine for Singapore, on 18 March 2008.

SPH currently holds an 80.1 percent share of this local search entity.

SPH Search claims that [http://www.rednano.sg rednano.sg] offers localisied results that are crafted for locals in mind.

Rednano.sg is a form of federated search engine which divides results for a search query into six distinct catogories: Local Web, News, Images, Maps, Directory and People.

MediaCorp TV Holdings

SPH has a business interest in free-to-air television with a 20 percent shareholding in MediaCorp TV Holdings Pte Ltd which operates channels 5, 8, U and TV Mobile.

PH UnionWorks

SPH UnionWorks is a 80-20 joint venture between SPH Multimedia and NTUC Media. It operates entertainment-based station Radio 91.3 which features adult contemporary hit music from the 80s to the current, 24 hours a day, as well as, Radio 1003, an infortainment-based station that provides Chinese listeners with the latest news, music and entertainment.

SPH UnionWorks was set up in 2001 as UnionWorks, then a 50-50 joint venture between SPH MediaWorks and NTUC Media. The two stations WKRZ 91.3 and UFM 100.3, previously Heart 91.3/91.3 The Most Music and Heart 100.3, were previously wholly-owned by NTUC Media.

PH MediaBoxOffice

SPH MediaBoxOffice (SPHMBO) is an outdoor motion display advertising network media company with five large LED screens at locations, 400 plasma & LCD screens island wide, and large-format billboards at the heart of the city. In addition, SPH holds a 35 percent stake in TOM Outdoor Media Group, an outdoor advertising company in China.

Property

SPH owns and manages Paragon, the retail and office complex in the heart of Orchard Road, Singapore's main shopping belt. Paragon houses international brands and luxury-good boutiques, restaurants serving wide-ranging cuisines, and lifestyle facilities such as spas and a fitness club. SPH is also developing Sky@eleven, a 43-storey up-market residential condominium on its former Times Industrial Building site at Thomson Road.
