West Lindsey local elections

One third of West Lindsey Council in Lincolnshire, England is elected each year, followed by one year when there is an election to Lincolnshire County Council instead.

The council is divided up into 25 wards, electing 37 councillors, since the last boundary changes in 1999.cite web| url = http://www.west-lindsey.gov.uk/section.asp?docId=1847 | title = West Lindsey District Council Elections | accessdate = 2008-04-13 | publisher = "West Lindsey District Council"] By-elections are held for any vacancies that arise between the yearly elections on the first Thursday of May. Victory in a by-election in May 2006 saw the Liberal Democrat party gain control of the council.cite web| url = http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/lincolnshire/4996498.stm | title =Lib Dems win control of council | accessdate = 2008-04-13 | publisher = "BBC Online"]

In 2007 an election for the Scotter ward was decided by the toss of a coin after both candidates finished with the same number of votes, resulting in a victory for the Conservative candidate.cite web| url = http://www.news.com.au/story/0,23599,21671839-1702,00.html | title = Tied council election decided with coin toss | accessdate = 2008-04-13 | publisher = "news.com.au"]
