Azafady

Azafady is a registered UK charity and Malagasy non-governmental organisation, established in 1994, working in southeast Madagascar to alleviate poverty, improve well-being and protect beautiful unique environments. Azafady works with communities among the Antanosy peoples around the last remaining stands of littoral forest in southeast Madagascar. The Antanosy are among the poorest people in Madagascar.

Goals

Azafady has a bias towards projects that bring measurable benefits to the poorest members of village communities where help is most needed. Although founded to protect the environment, Azafady's 'on the ground' work is all about people: their health, their education, their workload and their ability to raise their families and survive alongside the precious forest that they and we so depend upon.

Azafady, for those who might be wondering, basically means ‘please’ in Malagasy, or more specifically ‘excuse me’. More specifically, it translates as ‘may it not be taboo to me’.
