Janesville, California

Janesville is an unincorporated town in California with a population of 3,089 as of the 2000 census. It is located in Northeastern California on the eastern slopes of the Sierra Nevada Mountain range.

It consists of an elementary school, a park, three churches, two gas stations, a pizza parlor, a veterinary hospital, a feed store, a hardware store, a post office, and a few other businesses.

The town actually stretches over a distance of convert|8|mi|km.

Fort Janesville In 1860, settlers built a loopholed stockade, with a bastion or block house in its southwest angle, Iess than a mile from the town of Janesville, Lassen County, after the Battle of Pyramid Lake (also known as the "The Ormsby Massacre") for protection from an Indian attack that never materialized. The site of the fort is now a California Historic landmark.

In 1864, Janesville lost to Susanville by one vote from becoming the county seat.

Janesville is also home to Mankins Ranch, also known as the Janesville Bear Dance site, located southeast of Highway 395.

In the state legislature Janesville is located in the 1st Senate District, represented by Republican Dave Cox, and in the 3rd Assembly District, represented by Republican Rick Keene.
