The Ninth Air Force is a numbered air force of the United States Air Force's Air Combat Command (ACC). It is headquartered at Shaw Air Force Base, South Carolina.

Ninth Air Force shared its commander with United States Air Forces Central (USAFCENT) until August 2009.[1] It is planned that they will return to a shared commander after the United States completes its current wars. This article deals with the current organization, as the lineage of the previous organization currently belongs to USAFCENT.

Major components

As of August 2011, the command is responsible for six active duty flying wings. These six wings are

Supervised non-flying units include:

  • 5th Combat Communications Group, Robins AFB, Georgia
  • 18th Air Support Operations Group, Pope Army Airfield, North Carolina, and Hurlburt Field, Florida.

Ninth Air Force is also responsible for overseeing the operational readiness of 30 designated units of the Air National Guard and Air Force Reserve.
