Mario Haas (born 16 September 1974 in Graz) is an Austrian football forward, who currently plays for SK Sturm Graz.

Club career

Born in Graz, Haas has played most of his career for local side Sturm, except for a short stint at French side Racing Strasbourg. Also, in 2005 he joined JEF United Ichihara Chiba of Japan's J-League and enjoyed a reasonably successful first season, helping them lift the Yamazaki Nabisco Cup (the Japanese League Cup), the club's first ever trophy.

International career

He made his debut for Austria in an April 1998 friendly match against the United States and was a participant at the 1998 FIFA World Cup. He earned 43 caps, scoring 7 goals.^[1] His last international was a May 2007 friendly match against Scotland. He was asked to play in Austria's squad in a friendly match against Turkey in November 2008, by Austria's coach Karel Brückner, but refused, saying that he wanted to concentrate on his job at Sturm Graz. However, even despite this, he is still has not retired from International Football.
