John Michie

John Michie

John Michie (born 25 October 1956 in Burma) is a British television and film actor, best known for his role as DI Robbie Ross on the Scottish detective television series "Taggart".

Born in Burma, and raised in Kenya, when Michie was 12 his family settled in Edinburgh, Scotland. At the age of 19 he traveled to Australia where he worked various odd jobs. Returning to Scotland two years later, he took a job as a stage hand at the Traverse Theatre, where his interest in acting started. His first film role was a bit part in the 1984 film, "A Passage to India". He followed it up with several guest appearances on television series such as "Casualty", "Lovejoy", "Poirot", and "Bugs". He starred in Taggart eight years before he joined full time as DI Robbie Ross. In 1990, he played the character of Robby Meiklejohn in the Taggart episode called "Love Knot". He was cast as the lead in the film adaptation of the Piers Paul Read novel, "Monk Dawson" and began working on the series "Taggart" both in 1998. In 1999, he starred alongside Richard Harris in "To Walk with Lions".John also starred in the BBC series "Moon And Son" with "That Was The Week That Was" star Millicent Martin as a pair of clairvoyants that travelled between France and England solving crimes and getting into various adventures. Michie also stripped bare for the ITV one off drama "Bare Necessities" about a group of out of work miners who become strippers.

He will be the presenter of a five-part programme for STV, Highlands (TV series).

John gave his backing to the Labour Party in the Glasgow East by-election, 2008 despite supporting independence as recently as last year [http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/scotland/glasgow_and_west/7511847.stm]
