The Alban Berg Quartett is a string quartet founded in Vienna, Austria in 1971. The quartet was named after the famous composer Alban Berg. The widow of the composer attended one of their earliest concerts, and was moved by their performance. When she greeted them after the concerts, she offered this idea and they accepted.

Alban Berg Quartet was best known for their perfect intonations and superb skills. However, some of the critics also regard this to be their main weakness.

The quartet members have decided to disband in July, 2008. After an announcement that the last concert would be held in Teatro Colón, Buenos Aires, Argentina [cite web |url=http://download.br-online.de/imperia/md/audio/podcast/import/2007_03/2007_03_13_15_32_00_podcastklassikaktuellalbanberg_a.mp3 |title=Das Alban-Berg-Quartett löst sich auf |accessdate=2007-07-02 |last= |first= |coauthors= |date=2007-03-13 |work= |publisher=Bayerischer Rundfunk |language=de] , the final South American tour will now include concerts at the Teatro Coliseo, in Buenos Aires [cite web |url=http://www.mozarteumargentino.org/ingles/funcion5.html |title=Series of Concerts |accessdate=2008-06-19] , Teatro Cultura Artística, in São Paulo, and Sala Cecília Meireles, in Rio de Janeiro. After giving two extra concerts in Taipei, Taiwan held in memorial of their late friend, Yuen-Dong Shu, the ex-president of the Central Bank of Taiwan on 12 and 13, July, 2008, the quartet will finally disband after concerts at the National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing, China, on 15 and 16 July 2008.
