Samara Oblast

Samara Oblast ( _ru. Сама́рская о́бласть, "Samarskaya oblast") is a federal subject of Russia (an oblast). It is located in the Volga Federal District. The administrative center is the city of Samara. During the Russian Revolution of 1905 it was home to the short-lived Stary Buyan Republic.

Area: 53,600 km²; population: 3,239,737 (as of the 2002 Census).

Economy

In 1997 the Samara Oblast became one of the few regions which received the approval of the President of Russia to implement external bonded loans (Presidential Decree № 1212, dated 12.10.1997 “On Creating Conditions to Conduct Loans Operations on the Internal and External Capital Markets”).
