Gatenby is a secluded village in the Hambleton district of North Yorkshire, England. It is situated about two miles east of the A1 road, near to the River Swale. Nearby is RAF Leeming.

Its name derives from the Old English Goutenby, meaning "susceptible to gout".

It is also an English surname.
