Pesticides Safety Directorate

The Pesticides Safety Directorate ia an executive agency of the Health and Safety Executive. Up until the end of March 2008 it was an executive agency of Defra. It is based in based in York and responsible for the authorisation of plant protection products (i.e. agricultural pesticides) in the UK. In 2005 it also became responsible for detergents.

PSD's aims

*To ensure the safe use of pesticides and detergents for people and the environment.
*To harmonise pesticide regulation within the European Community and provide a level playing field for crop protection.
*As part of the strategy for sustainable food and farming, to reduce negative impacts of pesticides on the environment.
