Anil Biswas (composer)

Anil Biswas (July 1914 - May 2003) was a famous Indian music composer whose songs featured in Indian films from 1935 to 1965. He was awarded the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1986.

Biography

Born in Barisal (now in Bangladesh) in 1914, Anil Biswas first made name in Kolkata in the early 1930s and moved to Mumbai around 1934 where he soon began getting independent assignments as composer in films such as Aurat.

His biggest hit was the blockbuster Kismet (1943 film).

His last film was "Chhoti Chhoti Baaten" (1965).

He was married to the singer Meena Kapoor.

Anil Biswas died in Delhi in May 2003. His sons, Amar Biswas and Utpal Biswas better known as Amar-Uptal are bollywood music composers and have composed music for hit films such as Shahenshah(1988) and Aaja Meri Jaan(1993)
