- Study hall
Study Hall or Study Period is a term for a
class period during the school day when students are not scheduled for an academic class. Study periods often occur because of scheduling conflicts in the school timetable when there is a mismatch between available students, teachers, subjects and classrooms.Study halls generally have assigned rooms and are monitored by
teacher s or teacher's aides. Study halls are most commonly found inhigh schools especially in America. Students are encouraged to use this time to completehomework , catch up on missing assignments or study for tests or quizzes. Students sometimes also use study halls to talk, make phone calls, text message, play video games, otherwise socialize or pursue non-academic topics though this is often discouraged or forbidden. Periods in which such things are allowed are often differentiated from study halls by the name "free period".Often in high school, students do socialize during "free period". Usually, this isn't associated with being in a supervised room under watch by a teacher, and students do as they will until the next academic class period begins.
