Arthur J. Dixon

Arthur J. Dixon

Arthur J. Dixon (born: December 1, 1919 - died: February 5, 2007) was a former member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta and a real estate agent.

Dixon first got involved in politics running in the 1949 Canadian Federal Election and again in a 1951 by-election for the Social Credit Party of Canada in Calgary West. He was defeated both times.

He would run again in the 1952 provincial election and end up elected to the third slot on the ballot transfer. Arthur served a long career in the legislature for the Alberta Social Credit Party from 1952 to 1975 and was ultimately defeated. He ran twice more but was unable to regain his seat.

Dixon became Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, after the death of Peter Dawson. He served that position from 1963 to 1972.

He founded Dixon Real Estate Services Inc in 1956, which he ran until 1990. His son Tom Dixon took over the business.

Arthur Dixon was made a Member of the Order of Canada in 1979.
