Augusto Soares Inácio born February 1,1955 in Lisbon) is a retired Portuguese football defender and is currently a coach.

Playing career

He played for Sporting Clube de Portugal and F.C. Porto, were he won several national championship titles and the Cup of Portugal. He played at the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup, in 1984 when Porto lost 1-2 to Juventus; and at the 1986-87 European Champions' Cup final, which Porto won against Bayern Munich.He had 25 caps for the Portuguese national team, 4 while playing for Sporting and 21 for F.C. Porto, from 1976 to 1986. His first game, on December 5, 1976, was a 2-1 win over Cyprus, in the 1978 FIFA World Cup qualifyings. He played at the 1984 UEFA European Football Championship and at the 1986 FIFA World Cup finals, where he had his last game, on July 11, 1986, a 1-3 loss to Morocco.

Managerial career

After ending his career, he became a football coach. As a manager he won Sporting's first title in 18 years in 1999-2000. After coaching clubs such as G.D. Chaves, C.S. Marítimo and Vitória S.C. (de Guimarães), he was the manager of S.C. Beira-Mar, since the end of the 2004-05 season until November 2006. In the 2005-06 season the team won the "Liga de Honra" (2nd level) and thus achieved promotion to the Portuguese Liga. He managed Beira-Mar during the first nine games of the next season, when he resigned, leaving the team with only six points. He then went on to manage Ionikos in the Super League Greece. However resigned after an embarrassing 4-0 defeat to Panathinaikos FC on January 15, 2007. On January 25, 2007 he signed with Iranian club, Foolad F.C.'s as their head coach, the contract will run till June 23, 2007. Despite Foolad's relegation to the Azadegan League Inácio signed a contract extension with Foolad for the 2007/08 season. On May 2008 Inácio signed a contract with Interclube of Luanda.
