Carroll High School is a private, coeducational high school located in Dayton, Ohio. It is run by the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Cincinnati. It is sometimes referred to as Archbishop Carroll High School or Dayton Carroll.

Carroll HS currently has around 900 students enrolled.

History

The school is named for John Carroll (1735-1815), the first bishop and subsequently the first archbishop of the United States. The school opened to students for the first time on August 18, 1961. The first class graduated May 31, 1965.

99.4% of Carroll graduates went on to higher education, and military service. Schools such as Georgia Tech, M.I.T., University of Notre Dame, University of Florida, Duke University, Vanderbilt University, Miami University, Bowling Green State University, Ohio State University, University of Dayton, Service Academies, Case Western Reserve University, Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, Wright State University, as well as many Ivy League schools. The class of 2007 includes 15 National Merit Scholars. Around 56% of each graduating class receive more than 11 million dollars in scholarships, top of the region.

Most of the faculty have advanced graduate degrees or similar training. Dual credits are offered in partnership with the University of Dayton.

The Archdiocese provides grants for those students in need. Carroll also provides scholarships to outstanding students.

Media 4 Carroll

Media 4 Carroll is one of Carroll's most active clubs, and is one of the only clubs of its kind in the greater Dayton area. The club serves to give students the opportunity to create their own media content and present it to an audience. The main purpose of Media4Carroll is to produce and air a weekly closed circuit television show, which students watch each Friday on Channel 4. The show serves to convey announcements, promote upcoming school functions, and highlight events. Students film and edit sports, social events, clubs, and other school activities. Students also write and produce their own 'comedy' segments regularly, although many observers to the show perceive it as 'corny'

In addition to the weekly show, the club also produces DVDs of special school functions including the Hall of Fame induction ceremony. Recently, Media4Carroll began producing DVDs highlighting the school's football team, and CDs of the Carroll Concert Band's performances. In the last few years, Media4Carroll has remodeled its facilities and upgraded its equipment to become all digital. The club has a variety of professional video acquisition and production equipment. The club has the capability to produce both live and prerecorded content.

Over the years many Carroll graduates have found careers in this field, in part because of their experience in Media4Carroll.

Kevin Kramer ('95) graduated with a BFA in Motion Picture Production from Wright State University. He taught filmmaking for the Ohio Arts Council, before moving to Los Angeles, CA where he currently works as a television writer and producer.

Luke Notestine ('00) graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and is now a sports anchor for WKEF-TV in Dayton, Ohio

Athletics

The Carroll Patriot teams compete in the school colors of red, white, and blue. After nineteen years of being in the Mid-Miami League, they joined the Greater Catholic League in 2006 after the MML folded. They participate in men's and women's sports, most importantly American football and soccer.

The football team made it to the playoffs the last 8 years, including two final-four appearances in the state playoffs in 2004 and 2005. The men's soccer team had three state playoff back to back final fours in 2003, 2004 and 2005.

* Wrestling – 1998*: * 8 teams qualify each year in each division and compete in a bracketed dual meet tournament. This is not the official OHSAA sanctioned state tournament in Ohio, which Carroll has never in fact won. Some states have a larger, official dual meet state championship in addition to the normal wrestling tournament format.
