Battle of Gaza

Several battles have been fought near the city of Gaza in Palestine:
* The Battle of Gaza (312 BC), fought between Ptolemy I of Egypt and Demetrius I of Macedon
* The Battle of Raphia in 217 BC, also known as the "Battle of Gaza", fought between Ptolemy IV of Egypt and Antiochus III the Great of the Seleucid kingdom.
* There were three World War I battles fought at Gaza between British forces and those of the Ottoman Turks:
** The First Battle of Gaza (March 26, 1917) was a Turkish victory
** The Second Battle of Gaza (April 19, 1917) was a Turkish victory
** The Third Battle of Gaza (October 31–November 7, 1917) was a British victory
* The Battle of Gaza (2007), saw the Gaza Strip being completely taken over by Hamas.
