The Fallen One is a fictional character that appears in comic books published by Marvel Comics. The character first appears in Thanos #11 (Aug. 2004), and was created by Keith Giffen.

Fictional character biography

The Fallen One was originally a Herald of the cosmic entity Galactus, and was his first attempt at creating a servant. Unlike later Heralds, the Fallen One was empowered by dark energy as opposed to cosmic radiation. The Fallen One, however, proves to be very cruel and is eventually imprisoned by Galactus. The Fallen One manages to escape and repeatedly attacks Galactus, who always defeats his former Herald. The hero Star-Lord eventually imprisons the Fallen One in the inter-galactic prison the Kyln. The Fallen One escapes when the Kyln is destroyed in a conflict between Thanos and the entity the Maker. Although the Fallen One finds Galactus once again, Galactus simply teleports him back to Thanos to deal with. Thanos manages to defeat the Fallen One by tricking him into igniting a gas giant, which renders him unconscious. Thanos then mentally enslaves him, forcing him to serve as Thanos' Herald. ["Thanos" #11 - 12 Aug. - Sep. 2004)]

The Fallen One later battles the Proemial Gods Tenebrous and Aegis, who kill him and present his remains to Thanos in a gesture of contempt. ["Silver Surfer: Annihilation" #2 - 3 (Jul. - Aug. 2006)]

Powers and abilities

The Fallen One, unlike later Heralds, is granted control of black matter, the "binding halo by which galaxies are made solvent". The Fallen One can use this matter to augment strength, reflexes and durability, project energy, control the electromagnetic spectrum, manipulate matter and allow total immunity to the rigors of space. The Fallen One is also capable of travelling faster than the speed of light.
