California's 39th congressional district covers part of southeastern Los Angeles County, including Lynwood and part of Whittier, and is represented by Linda Sánchez, a Democrat elected in 2002.

The seat was originally one of five reapportioned to California after the 1970 census. The district as currently drawn was created for the 108th Congress following post-2000 census redistricting.

The previous 39th was a Republican stronghold, territory now mostly redesignated into the 40th and 42nd districts; Sánchez's predecessor, Ed Royce, now represents the 40th.
