History

The Civic Centre

The building opened in July 1982 as the County Hall. Prior to local government re-organisation in 1996, it was the headquarters of the former West Glamorgan County Council. After 1996 it kept its name of County Hall and was given to the City and County of Swansea council for use. The building was renamed the Civic Centre on 19 March 2008, and Swansea Central Library was moved in as part of a redevelopment scheme. The library issued nearly 566,000 loans in 2008/09, making it the busiest in Wales and the tenth busiest in the UK.[1] The Civic Centre is served by a number of stops on the Swansea Metro bus route.[2]
