Sound velocity

Sound velocity

* Sound velocity in conventional use in scientific literature is the same as sound speed.

* Sound velocity should not be confused with sound particle velocity, which is the velocity of the individual particles.

In a gas the sound particle velocity is comparable to the sound speed, while in a solid or fluid the sound particle velocity is much smaller than the sound speed.
