Kraus Preserve of Ohio Wesleyan University

Kraus Preserve of Ohio Wesleyan University

The Kraus Wilderness Preserve of Ohio Wesleyan University was founded in 1976 when the "John Kraus" provided the University with a 53-acre (21 ha) land "for instruction in agriculture, horticulture, and related subjects". An endowed fellowship program promotes student research at the Kraus Preserve and has supported projects on soil microbiology, deer browse effects, fungal endophyte-plant interaction, and amphibian, bird and small mammal population surveys. Each year up to three students are awarded research fellowships, which include a stipend for materials and supplies. Additionally, funds from the Kraus Endowment can be used for purchasing equipment for the projects.

Location

The preserve is 80 acres (32 ha) of mature beech-maple and oak-hickory forest in the southern part of Delaware County.
