Swansea, Tasmania, Australia is a town located in the center of Tasmania's east coast, on the northwest shore of Great Oyster Bay and overlooking Freycinet National Park. According to the 1996 census, the town's population was 495. 25.1% of the town's population were above the age of 65 - making it the Tasmanian town with the largest percentage of over-65-year-olds.

Swansea is a delightful historic town that overlooks the Great Oyster Bay, about halfway up the east coast. It also faces the marvelous Freycinet National Park. There are lots of lovely beaches, bays and rivers and various activities such as sunbathing, swimming and fishing. There are the old saltworks ruins, the very unusual Spiky Bridge, Nine Mile Beach that forms the southern edge of Moulting Lagoon. The town of Swansea is physical evidence of the early British settlement with its old building and unique infrastructure.

The town has an active local community with a number of community and volunteer groups ranging from Volunteer Coast Guard and SES, to Probus, the Swansea Model Yacht Club and even the "Swansea Players". In 2007, the community spirit was recognised as winner of the National Tidy Towns Tidy Towns

In May the Biannual, [http://www.fromfrancetofreycinet.com.au/index.html From France to Freycinet Festival] is held to celebrate the voyage of Baudin to the area in the early 1800's. The festival features live music performances, the 'Tour de Freycinet' cycling race, model yacht racing as well as a number of food and wine events.
