HMS Antelope

Several ships of the Royal Navy have been named HMS "Antelope":

*HMS|Antelope|1546|6, a galley launched in 1546, rebuilt twice and participated in the fight against the Spanish Armada (1588). She was burned by parliamentarian sailors at Hellevoetsluis in 1649 during the Second English Civil War.
*HMS|Antelope|1651|6, a 56-gun third rate great frigate, launched in 1651 and wrecked in 1652.
*HMS|Antelope|1653|6, a 40-gun fourth rate frigate, launched in 1653 as "Preston" and renamed in 1660. Sold in 1693.
*HMS|Antelope|1703|6, a 54-gun fourth rate ship of the line launched in 1703.
*HMS|Antelope|1741|6, rebuilt from the 1703 "Antelope" and launched in 1741. She served in the Seven Years' and American Revolutionary wars and was sold in 1783.
*HMS|Antelope|1782|6, a 204-ton West Indian packet ship of 6 guns. She was attacked and captured on 10 October 1782.
*HMS|Antelope|1783|6, a 14-gun ship purchased in 1783, and in 1785 was under the command of Captain S. J. Gambier.
*HMS|Antelope|1802|6, a 50-gun fourth rate, launched in 1802 at Yarmouth Roads. It is very likely she is the same "Antelope" that was in commission at least from 1811 to 1840. She brought the first contingent of convicts to Bermuda in 1824 to work at the dockyard.
*"Antelope", an iron paddle-wheel vessel of 1,020 tons and 650 horsepower (480 kW). She was part of the Mediterranean fleet, recommissioned at Malta on 25 February 1880, under the command of Lieutenant Commander Walter Haylton Joliffe, with a crew of about 80 including a corporal and seven privates of Marines.
*HMS|Antelope|1892|6, an "Alarm"-class torpedo gunboat launched c. 1892. She was no longer in service by 1906.
*HMS|Antelope|H36|0, an A-class destroyer built by Hawthorn Leslie and launched on 27 July 1929.
*HMS|Antelope|F170|0, a Type 21 frigate. She was bombed in the Falklands War on 23 May and sank on 24 May1982.

A fictitious 18th century privateer named "Antelope" is the setting for Stan Rogers's song "Barrett's Privateers"
