Dadri played a very important role in the battle for freedom in 1857, when its Gujjar (Gurjars) ruler "Raja Umrao Singh Bhati" rose against British rule and damaged the same by joining together the other Gujjar rulers of the area. He was hanged along with 4 other mutineers by the British. But nothing is found in any texts about him and his sacrifice.

It has a power station owned and operated by National Thermal Power Corporation[1] that generates about 840 MW of electric power by means of coal fired thermal power plant and 830 MW of electric power generated by the gas fired plant. Two new units of 490 MW each have come up at the same plant in the year 2010. This plant is also the home to a big switchyard with the power handling capacity of more than 5000 MW. It has India's first and now second biggest HVDC transmission system in which power is transmitted from Rihand Super Thermal power station to National Capital Territory Power Project, by 805 km long Bipole HVDC transmission line operating at 500kV and handling power at 1500 MW designed and built by ABB and now operated by PGCIL. The plant also caters to multiple infrastructure projects and industries such as two large cement plants producing Polozonna Cement, Railways traction substation at Dadri Railway station serving north-east railway corridor, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, etc. in and around NCR region. The power is mainly consumed in the NCR power system. It has 8 outgoing transmission lines.

Dadri is also an upcoming town of technology and new facilities. One such project is a 100 bed General Hospital known as Mohan Swarup Charitable Hospital, on the National Highway, equipped with the state of art facilities. Another such project is three storied 60,000 sq ft (5,600 m2) Mohan Kunj Dharamshala, used for marriages and local functions. Both these facilities are built under the name of Late Shri Mohan Swarup, by the philanthropic family of Late Shri Salekchand Guptaji.
