Trinity High School is a public high school located on a hilltop overlooking the city of Washington, Pennsylvania, in the United States. Its bell tower has been a landmark in Washington County for years.

History

The school was once an all-boys military academy frequented by former president Ulysses S. Grant.Crompton, Janice. Trinity Hall, the historic core of the campus, dates back to 1857, when it was built as a private home. The building was purchased in 1879, and turned into the Trinity Hall Military Academy, with dormitories added for 35 students. The building was sold in 1925 to establish a public high school. The building has been expanded and renamed, but the core of the 150-year-old original structure remains.

Academics

Trinity High School offers 13 Advanced Placement classes and three languages. Spanish, French, and German. These language courses include classes from level one to level five.

The social studies subjects include: AP U.S. History, AP European History, AP Psychology, World History, American Government, Economics, Law, and Sociology.

The science subjects include: AP Chemistry, AP Biology, Physics, Conceptual Physics, Oceanography, Meterology, Astronomy, and Geography, and other conceptual subjects.

Mathematics include: Algebra and Int. Geometry (4 levels), AP Calculus (AB, BC, AB-BC), Pre Calculus, and AP Statistics.

The English subjects include: Great Books Honors, Writing Workshop Honors, Debate (I & II) Honors, Journalism (I, II, III, & IV), Public Speaking, and Advanced Public Speaking.

There are also varrious elective and core subjects in the areas of Arts, Music, Business, Study Halls, Work Release, English, Science, History, Mathematics, and other areas.

Activities and athletics

Trinity High School offers a wide variety of extracurricular activities and sports. Football, baseball, basketball, soccer, cross-country, track, wrestling, volleyball, golf, rifle, lacrosse, ice hockey, swimming, tennis, and cheerleading are available at Trinity. They are in the WPIAL AAA and AAAA divisions for their sports.

The extracurricular activities are as follows:
*The Marching Band (won 7 consecutive PIMBA championships and are the current champions) They are highly ranked among the nation and are in the upper percentile of Band programs in the U.SFact|date=June 2008
*The Forensics Team (member of the National Forensics League, one National Champion in Expository to its recordFact|date=June 2008, and has had numerous individuals qualify to the National Tournament and PHSSL State Tournament every year)
*The Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science Team (has several individuals go to the state tournament every year)
*The Odyssey of the Mind Team (has had one team go to the World TournamentFact|date=June 2008 and many teams got to the state championship)
*National History Day (competitors involved have gone to the state and national championships)Fact|date=June 2008
*Mayday used to be a Trinity Tradition since its founding, up until 1995, MayDay was celebrated in May with the crowning of a May Queen.
*Olympus, the yearbook staff, have created some of the best yearbooks in Trinity's history.

The Academic League, National Honor Society, Spanish Club, French Club, German Club, French Honor Society, German Honor Society, The Hiller Newspaper, Tri-M Music Honor Society, Student Council, SADD, Vocal Club, Future Teachers, Key Club, Music Appreciation, Friends Need Friends, Drawing Club, Artists' Club, Thespians, Gay Rights Supporters, Math League, Safe/Envirothon, Literary Journal, Fellowship Club, The Young Democrats Club, The Teenage Republicans Club, Team Trinity, and TRUE Trinity's Recreational Urge are additional groups that are sponsored by the high school.
