Ramgarh Cantonment is a cantonment town in Ramgarh district in the Indian state of Jharkhand. On 12th September 2007, it became a new district taking the total count of district in state to 24.

The civil area of the town outside the cantonment is called Ramgarh. It lies close by and to the North of the state capital of Ranchi. During World War II, the Chinese X force was trained at Ramgarh by American instructors at British expense.

Ramagrh Cantonment is surrounded by coal-fields at Rajrappa, Sayal and Gidi. Patratu Thermal Power Station is about 30 km from Ramgarh.

Ramgarh Cantonment is a railway station in the Muri-Barkakhana section. It is on the Ranchi-Hazaribagh Road. Another road links it to Bokaro Steel City. Damodar River flows past the town. Although the area was earlier part of the Ramgarh Raj, the latter was spread over a much wider area than the cantonment town.

The civil town was the venue of the All-India Congress session in 1940. It has also been the venue of many other important political conferences.

Its a centre for two prestigiuos Indian Army Regiment i.e. Sikh Regiment and Punjab Regiment

Demographics

As of 2001 India census [GR|India] , Ramgarh Cantonment had a population of 73,455. Males constitute 57% of the population and females 43%. Ramgarh Cantonment has an average literacy rate of 68%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 76%, and female literacy is 59%. In Ramgarh Cantonment, 14% of the population is under 6 years of age.

TOOTI JHARNA TEMPLESituated about 7 km from ramgarh cantt on NH-33 Patna Ranchi highway a famous temple of Lord Shiva where water from river falls through a canal on Shiv Linga. The Raghu baba of this tample is belongs from the near by village Digwar and hence most of the Digwar villagers are connected with this tample. To reach this tample is very simple. Just take a route of Ranchi-Patna road and take a right turn from Ranchi Road. It is very near to Ranchi road, just 2-3 km ahead towards the way of Village Digwar.
