Elephant.co.uk

elephant.co.uk was launched by the Admiral Group in August 2000 as the UK’s first online-only car insurance provider. Since then the company has expanded its customer base to in excess of 350,000 drivers as of April 2007. elephant.co.uk, along with sister brands Admiral Insurance and Bell Insurance, is based in Cardiff, Wales. The company is currently run by Managing Director Brian Martin and employs over 1000 people.

Since its launch in 2000 the brand identity for elephant.co.uk has remained fairly consistent and has used relatively low-budget studio-based television commercials since launch. elephant.co.uk is also the only UK car insurance provider that currently uses a URL as its brand name.

elephant.co.uk targets drivers across the UK, but especially London, the South East and the Scottish regions, and those who traditionally pay higher premiums for car insurance.

Trunkie

Since launch, the face of elephant.co.uk has been the character of Trunkie, who is portrayed as a cartoon elephant in all printed material and as a pantomime style elephant in the television commercials. Trunkie also appears in the company logo.

Trunkie is currently voiced by "Shaun Of The Dead" star Nick Frost.

Charities

In 2000 elephant.co.uk set up a long-term relationship with the Born Free Foundation in order to provide support to certain projects. In April 2000 elephant.co.uk donated £17,000 to the Stop the Clock campaign that works to stop the ivory trade. elephant.co.uk contributes funds to a wide variety of Born Free projects, including the Elephant Transit Home in Sri Lanka and anti-poaching patrols in Zimbabwe.

Since the relationship began in 2004, elephant.co.uk has donated over £30,000 to the Tusk Trust; a UK based African wildlife charity. Some of the projects that elephant.co.uk has helped fund include the Namunyak Wildlife Conservation Project in Kenya and the Mkomazi Reserve in Tanzania.
