Vedasandur is a panchayat town in Dindigul district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu.

Geography

Vedasandur is located at coord|10.53|N|77.95|E| [ [http://www.fallingrain.com/world/IN/25/Vedasandur.html Falling Rain Genomics, Inc - Vedasandur] ] . It has an average elevation of 219 metres (718 feet).

Etymology

The name derived from the Vedan Sandhaiur that is Vedan means hunter, Sandhai means the place
for sales something, the Hunters were come and sales their goods like animal leathers,
animal nails, honey and what the things they gethered in their hunting.

Demographics

As of 2001 India census [GR|India] , Vedasandur had a population of 10,944. It is located on NH7. Males constitute 51% of the population and females 49%. Vedasandur has an average literacy rate of 75%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 81%, and female literacy is 70%. In Vedasandur, 17% of the population is under 6 years of age.

In population, more than 70% are Hindus and second is Muslims and 3-4% are Christians etc.,

Agricultural is the main for most of the people.

The Tobacco research Centre, run by Central Government is in Vedasandur.

The Kudakanar river, branch river of Cauvery goes centre of town.

It is located 20km from Dindigul (on South), 75 Km From Madurai(on South), 60km from Karur (on North), 85km fromTrichy (on East,and 45 Km to Palani (on West)
