High school years
Loeffler attended Ingram Tom Moore High School and was an excellent student and a good athlete. He earned four varsity letters each in football and basketball. He also played in the UIL State Championship in doubles for tennis, winning the bronze in his junior year.
College career
Loeffler turned down several scholarship opportunities to enroll and walk-on at the University of Texas. He was red-shirted his first year at Texas, and saw limited action his second year as a back up tight end. He also took part in special teams that year. The next year he started Deep Snapping and found his niche with the Longhorn Football team. Cullen has been referred to by Detroit Lions deep snapper Don Muhlbach as "a transformational force within the deep snapping community; he is like nothing I have ever seen."
On October 7, 2011; the Minnesota Vikings signed long snapper Loeffler to a three-year extension, ensuring that the league’s longest-tenured kicking trio will remain intact. Loeffler, punter Chris Kluwe and kicker Ryan Longwell have played in Minnesota for the past six years. Which is longer than any other active trio in the league.
