primeref =The "Intrepid" class is a fictional
Starfleet starship class in theStar Trek universe, the most notable being ""' s titular USS "Voyager".In real life, the "Intrepid" class was designed by "Star Trek: Voyager" production designer Richard D. James and illustrator
Rick Sternbach .Appearance and technical information
The "Intrepid"-class USS "Voyager" has a
spade -shaped saucer section attached directly to the engineering section. The main bridge, escape pods that act as lifeboats, auxiliary navigational deflector, sensor platforms and dorsal phaser arrays are at the top of the saucer section. The ship's ventral phaser arrays, additional sensors, thrusters, running lights, anAeroshuttle , and additional lifeboats occupy the ventral saucer. The navigational deflector and two photon torpedo launchers are at the bow of the engineering section. The shuttlebays, aft torpedo launchers, and impulse engines occupy the stern near the warp nacelles. Additionally, there is a ventral phaser strip in the mid-section of the Engineering Section, though this is rarely used."Voyager" has a top speed of warp 9.975, variable geometry pylons, incorporates bioneural gel packs into the computer system, and includes the Mark One
Emergency Medical Hologram system. "Voyager" has a plasma-based power distribution system, a duranium hull, tricyclic life support systems, and artificial gravity plating. The ship has 257 rooms, and is capable of planetary landing.Variable geometry pylons allow Voyager and other Intrepid class ships to exceed warp 5 without damaging subspace. Known "Intrepid"-class starships
Other than "Voyager", only two other "Intrepid"-class ships have been on screen. The class prototype is the USS "Intrepid".cite book|title=
