It was hosted by Seann William Scott and Justin Timberlake and featured performances by t.A.T.u., 50 cent, and P!nk. Colin Farrell was presented an award for Trans-Atlantic Breakthrough Performance by Victoria and David Beckham, although this award was not broadcasted in the United States.

The show included a parody of "The Matrix Reloaded", intercutting actual footage with new material from the hosts. The unedited version is on the DVD version of The Matrix Reloaded.

The acceptance speech was filmed; it began with Andy Serkis (who played Gollum) accepting the award, then Gollum showing up, grabbing the award, and giving an hysterical, angry, profanity-laced acceptance speech parodying the Gollum/Sméagol dialogue in the movie. Serkis himself is known to create surreal speeches in his Gollum voice. The segment can be seen as an easter egg on "The Two Towers" extended version DVD.
