The "Journal of Democracy" is an academic journal founded in 1990 and an official publication of the National Endowment for Democracy. It is devoted to the study of democracy, democratic regimes, and pro-democracy movements throughout the world. In addition to scholarly research and analysis, It incorporates reports from activists on the ground, updates on elections, and reviews of important recent literature in the field. Writers published in "JOD" have included the likes of Vaclav Havel, the Dalai Lama, and Zbigniew Brzezinski. The editors are Dr. Larry Diamond of Stanford University and Dr. Marc F. Plattner of NED. The journal is published quarterly in January, April, July, and October. Circulation is 1,631 and the average length of an issue is 192 pages.
