Carpiquet

Carpiquet is a commune in the Calvados "département" in the Basse-Normandie region of France. Its postal code is 14650. The INSEE code is 14130. It is part of the metropolitan area of Caen-la-Mer.

History

Carpiquet and its adjacent airfield was one of the objectives of the 3rd Canadian Infantry Division during the Normandy landings on D-Day in World War II. The village was fought over between June and July 1944 in several battles, notably during the Battle for Caen.

Attractions

*Parc Festyland, an amusement park in Carpiquet. the park lies next to Caen's ring road and receives 110000 visitors per annum.
