Lou Tilley

Lou Tilley

Lou Tilley is a freelance anchor and reporter for Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic, which is based in Bethesda, Maryland. Prior to joining CSN Mid-Atlantic in September 2007, he was also a freelance anchor and reporter for SportsNet New York, which is owned in part by Comcast. He also co-hosts "Gymnastics USA" with Olympic medal winner Shannon Miller. He was formerly host, writer, and executive producer of "Out of Bounds" on CN8.

Born and raised in Philadelphia, PA, Tilley played football on a scholarship while attending Wake Forest University. During his senior year, Tilley was so seriously injured during a play, he almost lost his left leg. Lingering effects from that accident haunt him to this day, including a sports hernia. This injury ended his pro football aspirations and led him on the path to sports journalism.

Prior to "Out of Bounds" he was host, writer and executive producer for "Lou Tilley's Sports Connection" and the lead sports anchor for "CN8 News" from 2000 to 2006. He has hosted and called live action for the network for college football and basketball, women's pro tennis, Olympic qualifying figure skating with Olympian Nancy Kerrigan, national level gymnastics with Olympians Shannon Miller and Bart Conner, as well as Major Indoor League Soccer, and Women's pro soccer. Tilley also has written a weekly column for the Philadelphia-area Montgomery Newspapers for the last 4 years.

Before joining CN8, Tilley was the sports director and morning news anchor for KYW-TV in Philadelphia. In the early 1990's, he was the preseason play-by-play man for the Philadelphia Eagles for 5 years, with partners Dick Vermeil, Tom Brookshire, Irv Cross and Dan Jiggetts.

Before that, he was the sports director at WJZ-TV, in Baltimore, and the weekend sports anchor at WBZ-TV in Boston. As sports director at WPCQ-TV in Charlotte, North Carolina, where he began his television career, Tilley covered NASCAR and minor league baseball.

During his career, Lou Tilley has gathered 11 Emmy awards. He won "Outstanding Talk Program/Series" in the 2004 Mid-Atlantic Emmy Awards. Most recently, "Out of Bounds" was awarded the Mid-Atlantic Emmy award as Best Sports Talk Show, 3 months after the show was reformatted by CN8, and Tilley's contract terminated.

Tilly currently resides in the Philadelphia suburbs with his wife and two children.
