Background

The main feud heading into Survivor Series on the SmackDown brand was between Batista and The Undertaker over the World Heavyweight Championship. Their feud first began when Undertaker won the 2007 Royal Rumble match and challenged Batista for the title at WrestleMania 23. At the event, Undertaker defeated Batista to win the title and extend his WrestleMania winning streak to 15–0. [cite web| first=Jen|last= Hunt|title=The streak lives on for The Deadman|url=http://www.wwe.com/shows/wrestlemania/matches/3916184/results/|date=2007-04-01|publisher=WWE|accessdate=2007-11-01] The two faced each other at Backlash in a Last Man Standing match, which ended in a draw after both men failed to answer the ten count, and on the May 1, 2007 episode of "SmackDown!" in a Steel Cage match, which also ended in a draw. [cite web| first=Lennie|last=DiFino|title=Stand aside|url=http://www.wwe.com/shows/backlash/matches/396065217/results/|date=2007-04-29| publisher=WWE|accessdate=2007-11-01] [cite web|first=Lennie|last= DiFino|title=Caged fury|url=http://www.wwe.com/shows/smackdown/archive/05112007/articles/postsdcagematch|date=2007-05-11|publisher=WWE|accessdate=2007-11-01] Undertaker lost the title to Edge after the Steel Cage match by pinfall following a spear but was forced to vacate the title, and The Great Khali won the championship in July. Batista won the contest after executing a Batista Bomb on Undertaker to retain the title. [cite web|first=Mike|last= McAvennie|title=Batista conquers his Phenom-enal demons|url=http://www.wwe.com/shows/cybersunday/matches/5267610/results/|date =2007-10-28| publisher=WWE|accessdate= 2007-11-03] On the November 2 edition of "SmackDown!", The Undertaker asked for a rematch with Batista, who accepted. Undertaker then revealed that the match would take place inside a Hell in a Cell. [cite web|first=Louie|last=Dee|title=New York knockout|url=http://www.wwe.com/shows/smackdown/archive/11012007/articles/nyknockout|date=2007-11-02|publisher=WWE|accessdate=2007-11-18] On the November 9 edition of "SmackDown!", Undertaker defeated Khali in a No Holds Barred match, [cite web|first=Louie|last=Dee|title=Takin' care of business|url= http://www.wwe.com/shows/smackdown/archive/11092007/articles/noholdsbarred|date=2007-11-09|publisher=WWE| accessdate=2007-11-18] and the week after Batista defeated Mark Henry in a No Disqualification match. After the match, Undertaker appeared on the TitanTron and stared down Batista.

The main feud on the Raw brand was between Randy Orton and Shawn Michaels, with the two battling over the WWE Championship. At the previous pay-per-view, Cyber Sunday, Michaels was chosen by the WWE fans via online voting to face Orton for the title, but Orton retained his title by getting himself disqualified. [cite web|first=Bryan| last=Robinson|date=2007-10-28|title= Sweet Chin Grand Slam|url=http://www.wwe.com/shows/cybersunday/matches/52676102/results/|publisher=WWE|accessdate=2007-10-30] The next night, on the October 29, 2007 edition of "Raw", Michaels was granted his request for a rematch against Orton at Survivor Series. Later in the night, the feud between Triple H and Vince McMahon continued with McMahon putting Triple H in a Handicap match against Umaga and Orton. Michaels interfered to help Triple H, attacking Umaga and Orton. [cite web|first=Bryan|last=Robinson|date=2007-10-29|title=Brotherly love, DX-style|url=http://www.wwe.com/shows/raw/archive/10282007/articles/brotherlylovedx|publisher=WWE|accessdate= 2007-11-06] Michaels and Triple H teamed up on the November 5, 2007 edition of "Raw", reuniting as D-Generation X for one night only against Umaga and Orton. DX won the contest after Michaels performed a Sweet Chin Music to Orton. [cite web|first=Bryan|last=Robinson|date=2007-11-05|title=DX-hilaration for a night|url=http://www.wwe.com/shows/raw/archive/11052007/articles/dxoldtimes|publisher=WWE|accessdate=2007-11-18] The two met in a "Face to Face Confrontation" on the November 12, 2007 edition of "Raw", with McMahon being the enforcer. During the confrontation, Orton attacked Michaels and attempted to boot him in the head, only to be stopped by McMahon. Orton then performed an RKO on Michaels.

The main feud on the ECW brand was between John Morrison, The Miz and CM Punk, who were all battling over the ECW Championship. The feud between Morrison and Punk began at in June, when Morrison (then known as Johnny Nitro) defeated Punk to win the vacant ECW Championship. [cite web|first=Bryan|last=Robinson|date=2007-06-24|title=ECW World Title goes A-list|url=http://www.wwe.com/shows/vengeance/matches/40811641113/results/|publisher=WWE|accessdate=2007-11-07] Morrison defeated Punk again at The Great American Bash and SummerSlam. Morrison and Miz headed into Survivor Series as WWE Tag Team Champions, as they won the titles the Friday before.

Event

Preliminary matches

The first match that aired was the encounter of John Morrison, The Miz, and CM Punk for the ECW Championship.cite web|url= http://www.onlineworldofwrestling.com/results/wweppv/survivorseries07.html|accessdate=2007-12-09|title=Survivor Series 2007 Results|publisher=Online World of Wrestling] In a back and forth match between the three combatants, Punk retained his ECW Championship after performing a GTS (Go To Sleep) on The Miz and pinning him for the win.cite web|url=http://www.hoffco-inc.com/wwe/ppv/ppv/sur07.html|accessdate=2007-12-09|title=Survivor Series 2007 Review|publisher=hoffco-inc.com|date=2007-11-18]

The next match was an interpromotional 10-diva tag team match between the team of Kelly Kelly, Torrie Wilson, Mickie James, Maria, and Michelle McCool and the team of Victoria, Beth Phoenix, Melina, Layla, and Jillian Hall. Phoenix's team controlled the match until James was tagged in and performed a Kiss of Death on Melina, giving her team the win in under five minutes.cite web|url=http://pwtorch.com/artman2/publish/PPV_Reports_5/article_23648.shtml|accessdate=2007-12-10|title=Caldwell's WWE Survivor Series Report 11/18: Ongoing "virtual time" coverage of PPV|last=Caldwell|first=James|publisher=PW Torch|date=2007-11-18] cite web|last=Rote|Andrew|url=http://www.wwe.com/shows/survivorseries/matches/433496411/results/ |title=Mickie marches in 10 Divas Tag Team Match|accessdate=2007-11-22|publisher=WWE]

The third match was a tag team bout for the World Tag Team Championship between the champions, Lance Cade and Trevor Murdoch and the team of Hardcore Holly and Cody Rhodes. There was back and forth action between the two teams in the start of the match, until Rhodes tagged himself into the match and got control over Murdoch. Holly then clotheslined Cade and both men fell to the outside of the ring. This left Rhodes by himself, allowing Murdoch to then perform a sunset flip powerbomb and pin Rhodes and retain the World Tag Team Championship for his team.

Main event matches

Next was a Survivor Series match with Team Triple H (Triple H, Jeff Hardy, Rey Mysterio and Kane) against Team Umaga (Umaga, Mr. Kennedy, Montel Vontavious Porter (MVP), Finlay and Big Daddy V). Team Triple H was at a 5-on-4 disadvantage, as Matt Hardy was unable to compete due to an injury. Kane was the first superstar eliminated, after Big Daddy V performed an elbow drop on him. Rey Mysterio was then eliminated by Umaga after a Samoan Spike. MVP was then eliminated after a Twist of Fate by Jeff Hardy. Mr. Kennedy was eliminated next after Big Daddy V accidentally performed an elbow drop on Kennedy, allowing Triple H to cover him for the elimination. Big Daddy V was the third eliminated member of Team Umaga, after Hardy and Triple H performed a Double DDT on him. Finlay was the next member eliminated off Team Umaga, after a Pedigree from Triple H. Umaga, the captain, was the final member eliminated from his team, after a Pedigree from Triple H and a Swanton Bomb from Hardy, both of whom won the match for Team Triple H.

The fifth match was a bout between The Great Khali and Hornswoggle in a David vs Goliath match. Before Hornswoggle wrestled Khali, he attacked Khali's translator, Runjin Singh. Hornswoggle then tried to attack Khali with a shillelagh, but was slapped down to the ring mat. Afterwards, when Khali attempted to lock a vise grip on Hornswoggle, Finlay emerged and attacked Khali with his own shillelagh, disqualifying Hornswoggle and giving the win to Khali.

Next was the encounter between Randy Orton and Shawn Michaels for the WWE Championship. In this stipulated match, Michaels was banned from using his signature move, Sweet Chin Music, while Orton was unable to get disqualified, and if either man broke those stipulations he would have lost the WWE Championship match. As Michaels was unable to use his signature move, he attempted many submission moves, such as the Sharpshooter, crossface and the ankle lock. Michaels, however, went to perform Sweet Chin Music on Orton but stopped, which then allowed Orton to perform an RKO and pin Michaels to retain his WWE Championship. After the match, Orton pleaded with Michaels to say that Orton was the future of WWE, but Michaels superkicked Orton instead.cite web|url=http://www.wrestlingobserver.com/wo/news/headlines/default.asp?aID=21368&OP=anyWords&SF=Survivor+Series|accessdate=2007-12-28|title=Survivor Series Match by Match coverage|last=Meltzer|first=Dave|publisher=Wrestling Observer|date=2007-11-18]

The main event was the encounter of Batista and The Undertaker for the World Heavyweight Championship in a Hell in a Cell match. Batista gained control over Undertaker by performing a Batista Bomb on him through a table and a spinebuster on him onto the steel steps. Undertaker fought back into the match, eventually delivering a Tombstone Piledriver, of which Batista kicked out. Undertaker then delivered a second Tombstone, this time onto the steel steps. As the referee made the count for the pin, Edge, dressed as a cameraman, pulled the referee out of the ring. After hitting Undertaker with a camera, Edge then delivered a con-chair-to to Undertaker with a steel chair onto the steel steps and dragged Batista onto Undertaker for the pin, as the referee regained consciousness, allowing Batista to retain the World Heavyweight Championship.

Aftermath

The following night on "Raw", Randy Orton proclaimed that he defeated "all there is to beat," referring to victories over John Cena, Triple H and Shawn Michaels, and that it was time for the torch to be passed to him.cite web|last=Clayton|first=Corey|url=http://www.wwe.com/shows/raw/archive/11192007/articles/jerichoreturns|title=Orton burned by the second coming of Chris Jericho|date=2007-11-19|accessdate=2007-12-23|publisher= WWE] Chris Jericho, however, returned to WWE after a two year hiatus, interrupting Orton during his orchestrated "passing of the torch" ceremony. Jericho revealed his intentions to reclaim the WWE Championship in order to "save" WWE from Orton. Jericho then laid a challenge to Orton with the WWE Championship on the line, which Orton did not accept. The following week on "Raw", Jericho cost Orton a match against Ric Flair to further convince him to accept the challenge. [cite web|last=Robinson|first=Bryan|url=http://www.wwe.com/shows/raw/archive/11262007/articles/spacemountainopen|title=Win or go home - for good|date=2007-11-26| accessdate=2007-12-23|publisher= WWE] After "Raw" went off the air, Orton accepted the challenge. After the event, Jericho started a feud with JBL which lasted until the Royal Rumble.cite web|first=Greg|last=Adkins|url=http://www.wwe.com/shows/royalrumble/matches/526761032111/results/|title=Bad Blood|accessdate=2008-01-29|date=2008-01-28|publisher=WWE]

On the November 23 edition of "SmackDown!", General Manager, Vickie Guerrero, "punished" Edge for his interference in the World Heavyweight Championship match between Batista and The Undertaker at Survivor Series by making him the number-one contender for the World Heavyweight Championship, before revealing she had begun a romantic relationship with Edge and had facilitated his "plan" to regain the title.cite web|url=http://onlineworldofwrestling.com/results/smackdown/071123.html|title=SmackDown! results - November 23, 2007|accessdate=2007-12-28|publisher=Online World of Wrestling] Later in the night, as she and Edge were in the ring, The Undertaker performed a Tombstone Piledriver on Vickie after Edge ran out of the ring. At Armageddon, Edge defeated champion at the time Batista and The Undertaker in a Triple Threat match for the World Heavyweight Championship by pinning Batista after a Tombstone Piledriver from The Undertaker.
