Gospel Oak railway station

Gospel Oak railway station

Gospel Oak railway station is in North London in the borough of Camden. It is on the North London Line and is also one of the termini for the Gospel Oak to Barking (Goblin) line. The station is in Travelcard Zone 2, and is managed by London Overground, as are all passenger trains serving the station. The station opened in 1860 [citebook|title=London Railway Atlas|author=Joe Brown|publisher=Ian Allan Publishing|date=2006] .

The station is raised well above street level and has no lift service or disabled access. The North London Line is served by two platforms (pictured) whereas the Goblin line is presently a single line and platform. Freight services to and from Barking are served by separate through lines to the north of the station, bypassing this stand-alone platform.

The passenger junction facilities are relatively recent, being opened in 1981. Until that date trains from the Barking line left the current route at Tufnell Park and descended the steep gradient to Kentish Town, while the route continuing to Gospel Oak had been used only by freight trains, which passed alongside Gospel Oak station and made a junction with the North London line just west of there. After the change the Kentish Town route itself became freight only, while passenger trains from Barking were diverted towards Gospel Oak, where a narrow new platform for them to terminate at was built in a restricted area alongside the north side of the existing station.

Transport for London have long-term plans to run through services between Clapham Junction and Barking, which will require new platforms to be built at Gospel Oak on the route that connects the Barking Line with the North London Line. Full electrification of the line to Barking has been ruled out in the short-term, but remains a long-term option.

ervice

The typical off-peak service from the station is:
* 2 tph (trains per hour) eastbound to Barking
* 4 tph eastbound to Stratford.
* 4 tph westbound to Richmond
