Lakeside Joondalup Shopping City is a major shopping centre, located in Joondalup, a suburb of Perth. It is located next to Grand Boulevard, and it is approximately 100 metres from Joondalup Train Station.

History and Development

Construction of the centre commenced in 1991, and opened in late November 1994. It celebrated in 10 year anniversary in 2004, and invited all retailers who had remained in the centre since it's opening to a gala party held in The Great Space.Fact|date=July 2007

Redevelopments

The centre has undergone a number of relevant extensions and developments since opening.

The cinema, originally opened as a Greater Union was constructed on top of the Joondalup Line railway reserve and opened in 1998. Sometime post 2000, the cinema was then sold to Grand Cinemas.Fact|date=July 2007

In 1999, the centre has added a new Department Store (Target) in the South-west corner. The area was originally left vacant and was secured until the construction phase began.Fact|date=July 2007

On completion of the works, the centres GLA will be over 70,000 m².

Valued at $116 m AUD (2006), the expansion will include a new major supermarket, department store and some 100 speciality stores, as well as adding a three storey parking structure of 1,710 new car bays located on the south eastern side of the site. The new extensions will connect with the existing centre via an enclosed area over Station Square. The first portion of Stage 3 was opened to the public on December 7, 2007.Fact|date=December 2007 This portion included the Fashion Mall (located within the old East Mall area), the Station Square precinct, the relocated Food Court, as well as a small selection of speciality retail stores.Fact|date=December 2007.

The Second portion of Stage 3 was opened to the public on April, 2008. This allowed access between the lower part of the center to the adjoining road of Boas Ave, This new section conatins such stores as Wild cards and gifts, A beautic and Shens Chinese Massage.Work continues on the remaining areas of Stage 3, and information now states that this part will be open on December the 4th 2008.Fact|date=December 2007

Architectural Features

The most striking feature of the centre is the main area known as The Great Space. It consists of a number of white tent-like structures covering a major area of the centre, with a large centre stage and display area in the middle of the area. Also inside the Lakeside Joondalup Shopping City, many variety stores feature within the "Great Space" which offer a variety of different products to center customers.

Transport

Adjoining the centre is the Joondalup Interchange, opened in 1993. The station services the Joondalup Line as well as numerous bus routes covering suburbs from Whitfords to Clarkson and beyond.

The centre is divided into a number of areas including:
* The New Fasion Mall - This new Fashion Mall contains all the latest look and trends right off the catwalk. Many new fashion outlets such as dotti, Sportsgirl, Rodger David and more.
* Station Square - Is now connected to the rest of the center and contains such fashion outlets as Live, City Beach, The Body Shop and many more.
* Food Court - Which now contains such food outlets as Bucking Bull, Sumo Salad, Aroma Cafe, Dome Cafe, Pure and Natural, Mango Thai, Sushi Zento, Two Chinese Outlets, Kebab Ko, Gelare, Maya Masala and one more outlet yet to open.
