Jim Owens

Jim Owens

Jim Owens (born March 6, 1927) was the head football coach at the University of Washington from 1957 to 1974. During his tenure, he compiled a 99-82-6 record. In 1959 and 1960, he led the team to back to back ten win seasons, back to back Rose Bowl wins and a National Championship in 1960. He also led the Huskies to the 1964 Rose Bowl. Prior to coaching at Washington, Owens was an assistant under the legendary Paul "Bear" Bryant at both Kentucky and Texas A&M. He played for the University of Oklahoma from 1946 to 1949, and was eventually elected to the College Football Hall of Fame.
