She Believes in Me

"She Believes In Me" is a country pop song, recorded by American star singer Kenny Rogers on his very popular 1978 album "The Gambler". The song was written by Steve Gibb (but not Steve Gibb,) and is the tale of a songwriter who has a beloved too good for him.

Rogers was reaching the peak of his career at this time, and "She Believes In Me" became one of his biggest crossover hits in the late spring of 1979, reaching number one on the Billboard Country Singles chart, number five on the Billboard Hot 100 pop singles chart, and number one on the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart. It was also a minor pop hit in Great Britain reaching number 42.

The song was a childhood favourite of Irish singer Ronan Keating, and he recorded it in 2004 as part of his "Turn It On" album. Rewriting the lyric a bit (hence getting some of the publishing royalties) and rearranging the title textually to "She Believes (In Me)", Keating reached number 2 on the UK Singles Chart with his treatment. It was at most a modest hit elsewhere in Europe, placing in the Top 30 in three countries there.

Other versions

Punk rock cover band Me First and the Gimme Gimmes recorded a version of "She Believes in Me" for their 2006 album, "Love Their Country".The late Dutch folksinger, Andre Hazes, wrote a Dutch version of this song "Zij gelooft in mij". It is also the titlesong of an award winning documentary from John Appel of the singers life.
