The Peaceful Valley Donkey Rescue, located in Tehachapi, California, is a non-profit organization that provides a safe and loving environment for abused, neglected and unwanted donkeys while promoting the well-being of donkeys worldwide. Founded in 2000, by Mark and Amy Meyers, it has grown to become the largest donkey rescue in the United States.
PVDR currently has Corporate Rescue Facilities in California and Texas as well as volunteer based Satellite Adoption Centers in Oregon, Washington, Florida, Oklahoma and West Texas.
While the original mission of the Peaceful Valley Donkey Rescue was to focus on rescuing and rehabilitating abused and neglected domestic donkeys, joint efforts at the request of the Bureau of Land Management and National Park Service have resulted in the relocation and preservation of hundreds of wild burros in the American Southwest.
Community outreach and education are essential to the mission of the Peaceful Valley Donkey Rescue. At the Rescue’s convert|100|acre|km2|sing=on ranch in Tehachapi, California, facilities are made available for free public use, including a meeting hall, educational faux pet shop, and a self-guided tour. Guided tours are available by appointment and everyone is welcome, including school, senior and special needs groups.
