The Stanford 20/20 Tournament is a cricket tournament in the Caribbean island of Antigua. It was held first in July and August 2006 in the West Indies at the Stanford Cricket Ground, St. John's, Antigua and Barbuda and the same place the year after. It is a variety of the popular Twenty20 format first introduced in English cricket in 2003.

The format was initially devised and made possible by Allen Stanford as a part of his (private) plan to bring West Indian cricket back to life. [ [http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/cricket/other_international/west_indies/4307344.stm Billionaire reveals Windies plan] , from BBC, retrieved 4 October 2005] 19 teams took part in the inaugural knock-out tournament and 20 teams took part in the second tournament (although 21 teams were originally scheduled to take part). It will now be a part of the official calendar of the WICB. Teams

In August 2007 the Stanford 20/20 Board of Directors announced the formation of further six professional teams in addition to the one previously established in Antigua & Barbuda as part of the Stanford 20/20 Professional League programme. [cite web|url=http://www.stanford2020.com/news_viewpress.php?release=4|work=stanford2020.com|title=Six Stanford 20/20 Pro Teams to Form in Four Months] Of the then seven teams Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Nevis and Saint Lucia will take part in the 2008 edition.

Winner

In an amazing run chase against Trinidad & Tobago, Guyana emerged the Stanford 20/20 Champion 2006. [cite web|url=http://content-www.cricinfo.com/ci/content/story/256391.html|work=cricinfo.com|title=Guyana crowned Stanford 20/20 champions]

2008 tournament

Initially it was planned to include two additional teams from the region in the 2008 competition, Cuba and the Turks and Caicos Islands, increasing the number of teams participating to twenty-one (21). [ [http://bajanreporter.blogspot.com/2007/10/stanford-2020-series-has-two-new-teams.html Stanford 20/20 has two new teams] , The Bajan Reporter, 9 October 2007.] However, since the application required by US citizens (such as Stanford himself) and organisations to interact with the island under the United States embargo against Cuba has been turned down, Sint Maarten, Cuba's destined opponent in the preliminary round, received a bye. [ [http://blogs.cricinfo.com/btw/archives/2007/12/cuba_denied_par.php Cuba denied participation in Stanford 20/20] , from "Cricinfo's" [http://blogs.cricinfo.com/btw/ "Beyond the Test World"] , retrieved 19 December 2007.]
