First Star Software

First Star Software, Inc. is a computer game development, publishing and licensing company, founded by Richard Spitalny (who remains the company's president) and Fernando Herrera in 1982. It is best known for its classic "Boulder Dash" franchise and "Spy vs. Spy" titles, originally written for 8-bit home computers like the Apple II, Atari 400/800, and Commodore 64. Millions of units have been sold in both the "Boulder Dash" and "Spy vs. Spy" series of games, with "Boulder Dash" appearing in the coin-operated arcades four times.

The company's games were also licensed to be ported to several video game consoles, such as the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) and the SEGA Master System. From 2002 on, First Star Software has published its games for PCs; portable devices, like PDAs, handheld game consoles, and mobile phones. "Boulder Dash-ROCKS!" for the Nintendo DS was released in November 2007, followed by the Sony PSP version in the first quarter of 2008.
