American Helicopter Society

The American Helicopter Society is a professional society in the area of vertical flight. It was formed in 1944. It gives out many awards for accomplishments in engineering in vertical flight. It publishes an official magazine (Vertiflite) and a technical journal (Journal of the American Helicopter Society). Even though it has the word "American" in its name, the membership is international.

Quote from their website: "The aim of the society is not only to emphasize and further engineering excellence in traditional rotorcraft platform disciplines, but also expand this focus to the multidisciplinary fields of vertical flight and related support industries."
