Edmonton—Strathcona is a federal electoral district in Alberta, Canada, that has been represented in the Canadian House of Commons since 1953. It spans the south central part of the city of Edmonton.

Geography

The riding is home to most of Edmonton's francophones. The historic district of Old Strathcona, the University of Alberta and the Mackenzie Health Sciences Centre are all located in the riding.

Edmonton-Strathcona encompasses the neighborhoods of Allendale, Argyll, Avonmore, Belgravia, Bonnie Doon, Capilano, Cloverdale, Empire Park, Forest Heights, Fulton Place, Garneau, Gold Bar, Grandview Heights, Hazeldean, Holyrood, Idylwylde, Kenilworth, King Edward Park, Lansdowne, Lendrum Place, Malmo Plains, McKernan, Ottewell, Parkallen, Pleasantview, Queen Alexandra Park, Ritchie, Strathcona, Strathearn, Terrace Heights, and Windsor Park.

It borders on the federal ridings of Edmonton Centre, Edmonton East, Edmonton—Sherwood Park, Edmonton—Mill Woods—Beaumont, and Edmonton—Leduc.

This district is bounded:
* On the north by the North Saskatchewan River.
* On the west by the North Saskatchewan River, Fox Drive, Whitemud Creek, and 119 Street
* On the southwest by Transmission Line
* On the southeast by the CP Line and 82 Street
* On the northeast by Edmonton's city limits

History

The electoral district was created in 1952 from Edmonton East and Edmonton West ridings.

* 1997-present: Rahim Jaffer - Reform (1997-2000), Canadian Alliance (2000-2003), Conservative (2003-present)

Current Member of Parliament

Its Member of Parliament is Rahim Jaffer, a former entrepreneur. He was first elected in 1997 and was re-elected in 2000, 2004, and 2006. He represents the Conservative Party of Canada. In the last parliamentary session he served as a member of the 'Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration.' He is also the chair of the Conservative Caucus in the House of Commons.
