elevation_max =Aspropyrgos ( _el. Ασπρόπυργος for white tower) is a suburban community located 20km NW of
Athens in the heart of theThriasian plain , andThria was known in ancient times. The municipality had a population of 27,741 at the 2001 census; its dialing code is 210.Its main street is Dimokratias Avenue. Aspropyrgos used to be a petroleum|oil producing-community, and oil was its main industry together with agriculture. Agriculture is, however, rare today. Eleusis military airport forms its communal and municipal boundary in its west, while Mount
Parnitha is in the northeast. A small port is found in the south and the shores are aligned with trees; willow and other types of pineless trees dominate the city's coastline. Aegaleo mountain is in the southwest and its landscape is rocky, and its nearest highway is GR-8A/E94, with its interchange at 2 km south of the centre. The interchange was a junction until 1994, and was then closed off from 1996 until 1997 in order to extend the number of lanes to four. The main street also serves a road that linked thePeloponnese and the northern and eastern suburbs of Athens, while the industrial area is in the southeastern part of the Aspropyrgos ; the entire south is also industrialized.Attiki Odos is now accessible to its north with an interchange, and the high-speed rail will be found to the north but without a nearby station. The refinery south of the city has been producing oil for many years; while it is the largest one in Greece, with annual capacity of convert|135000|oilbbl/d|m3/d|abbr=on., pollution has been a problem for years. The refinery includes depots in the southern and eastern parts, and some in the western part and at a dock to the southwest. The Skaramangas Bay lies to the south ; and a lagoon where the area is less than 1 km². The highway is in the west and the boundary with Chaidari is in the south, with the Aegaleo Ring situated in the east but not fully accessible.
Aspropyrgos has schools, lyceums, gymnasia, banks, a post office, a train station, a port, and squares ("
plateia ").Communities
